Rachel Hoffman

Rachel Hoffman was killed earlier this year in a botched attempt to use her as an informant in drug deal. The Tallahassee police department has yet to offer an apology for their role in contributing to her death and for their actions which include many instances of failing to carry out many of their own standard operating procedures.

Rachel's parents' attorney said, "if the city truly wants to make amends to this family, it's time for them to say they were negligent and publicly apologize."

A sincere apology, Irv Hoffman said, would "be appreciated and definitely a step in the right direction."

He and Rachel Hoffman's mother, Margie Weiss, are pushing for a statewide "Rachel's Law" that would require law-enforcement agencies to use only suitable confidential informants with legal representation and safety guarantees. "That's when I will feel there will be some justice," he said.

"My heart is broken. I feel like I'll never be the same again," he said. "I miss her every day. I cry every day for her. I pray every day for her."
