Dear Colleague:
For a while I was thinking about going after a job that I know you intend to seek. The dangling carrot of more money and a higher position created a sense of greed and competitiveness in me. I have taken a lot of pleasure in some recent problems you've been having with projects because I was hoping your failings made me look better. I certainly hope that my selfish, petty thoughts haven't shown, but one way or the other I'm sorry that I have been feeling that way about you. It's wrong of me to cast you in a poor light, and I intend to root for your successes in every way. I hope to become your trusted colleague and a better person.
